A mental health day out

Sometimes the best thing for your mental wellbeing is a few hours outside, a gentle walk and some time with animals. Fairhill is a calm place to do just that, on your own, with a carer or support worker, or with your group.

Brush the baby mini goats at Cuddle & Brush in the Kids' Barn at 8.30am, 12.30pm and 3pm, and help walk the grown up mini goats down to Turtle Lake on the daily Promenade at 11.30am. In between, find a seat in the shade, take in the sensory garden experiences, or settle in at the café.

Our goats are friendly farmyard animals, not therapy animals, and Fairhill does not provide therapy. Assistance animals are welcome throughout the gardens.

  • Sensory-friendly sessions available on request
  • Quiet spaces available for those who need breaks
  • Modified activities for different abilities
  • Gentle-paced programs for groups
  • Auslan interpreters can be arranged with advance notice

Lunch at the Gardens Café

The Gardens Café serves from 8am every day, with last orders at 2pm, and entry is free. There is level access to the café with moveable furniture. Let us know about dietary needs when you enquire for your group.

Community and care group questions

Do carers and support workers pay to get in?

No. Support Workers and Carers with ID/Companion Card come in free. Dependents pay the same prices as children aged 3 and over, with a Registered Carer plus one adult admitted free of charge.

Do you accept the Companion Card?

Yes. Companion Card holders receive free entry for their companion when purchasing their own ticket. Please present your Companion Card at the entrance or when booking online.

Is Fairhill a good day out for NDIS participants?

NDIS participants and their support workers are very welcome, on their own, in pairs or as a group. Fairhill is not a registered NDIS provider, so we do not deliver NDIS services; we are a place to spend a calm, interesting day together, with the gardens, the farmyard animals and the Gardens Café.

Is Fairhill wheelchair accessible?

There is accessible parking near the main entrance, wide gates, accessible toilets, and concrete or compacted-gravel main paths suitable for wheelchairs and mobility aids. The carpark is gravel, so we recommend drop-off at Reception. As a natural botanic garden some areas have uneven terrain, steps or narrow paths, and our staff are happy to suggest the most suitable routes.

Is Fairhill a good place for a mental health day?

Yes, it is a calm place to slow down. There are shaded garden paths, big lawns, rainforest pockets, quiet spaces for those who need a break, the mini goats and the Gardens Café. Fairhill is a calm day out for your mental wellbeing, not a health service.

Can we spend time with the goats?

Yes. With a Day Pass or Membership you can come to Cuddle & Brush with the baby mini goats in the Kids' Barn at 8.30am, 12.30pm and 3pm, and help take the grown up mini goats on their daily Promenade to Turtle Lake at 11.30am.

Do you offer animal-assisted therapy or emotional support animals?

No. Fairhill does not provide therapy, and our goats are farmyard animals rather than therapy or emotional support animals. Assistance animals are welcome throughout the gardens, and dogs on lead are welcome in the gardens.

Can you run a sensory-friendly visit for our group?

Sensory-friendly sessions are available on request, along with modified activities for different abilities. Tell us about your group when you enquire and we will talk through what suits.

How do we book a community or care group visit?

Groups of 10 or more can enquire through the form on our Group Bookings page, or call 07 5343 7906. Smaller groups and individual carers are welcome any day with a Day Pass. Weekday mornings are usually quieter.
