About this event
The Aussie Bird Count is BirdLife Australia's annual citizen science count, and in 2026 it runs from 19 to 25 October. The idea is simple: spend 20 minutes in one spot, note every bird you see, and add them to the national tally with the Aussie Bird Count app or web form. Sunday 25 October is the final day of count week, and Fairhill is a very good place to spend it. Pick your spot and settle in. The rainforest gardens, the Wild Nature Realm and Turtle Lake are home to honeyeaters, fairy-wrens, lorikeets, kookaburras and kingfishers, with the ducks and water dragons down at the lake for company. You can count as many times as you like, so move on to a new spot and start again. It is also the last day of National Gardening Week, and the Charles Camilleri Connection play Fairhill Chill from 11am to 2pm, so stay on for lunch at the Gardens Café with the music. If the birds get under your skin, the Fairhill Bird Group meets on the last Thursday of every month from 7am, and the next one is Thursday 29 October.
