Jenny Moodie Design

A Scottish creative based on the Sunshine Coast, creating pencil drawings that are digitally coloured and brought to life across art prints and paper stationery.

Inspired by nature

Jenny is a creative whose true love is nature and being immersed in it — and an organisation enthusiast who has combined the two in her work. Her hope is that her art and stationery bring you joy and inspire an appreciation for nature, creativity and organisation too.

From the age she could put pencil to paper, Jenny has loved drawing. At school her favourite subjects were art and design, and she went on to graduate with first-class honours in multi-disciplinary design.

Jenny Moodie Design was born in 2010 in Edinburgh, Scotland. When Jenny relocated to the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in 2016, she began creating work inspired by her new surroundings — discovering she could combine traditional and modern techniques to achieve unique outcomes and transfer them onto a range of paper goods.

She is fascinated by animals and plants, and even more so by the patterns, textures and colours created by nature. As a child she loved the changing of the seasons, foraging for nature's “treasures” in a local park or woodland, or beachcombing on a wet, windy day at the seaside. Nothing much has changed — she's just now on the other side of the world, happily wandering outdoors for hours absorbing inspiration (and taking far too many photos).

Her design process

From graphite pencil to finished print

Jenny has tried many mediums over the years but keeps coming back to a simple graphite pencil, which allows her to work in great detail.

Graphite first

Each piece begins with a woodless pure graphite pencil on smooth layout paper — a simple medium Jenny keeps returning to because it lets her work in great detail.

Scan & colour

The finished drawing is scanned and digitally coloured across several layers in Photoshop, blending traditional and modern techniques.

Printed

The final artwork is digitally printed and transferred onto art prints, cards and a range of paper goods — printed locally on the Sunshine Coast.
